Maarten De Naeyer creates abstract paintings rooted in a graphic visual language.
Influenced by his background as a designer, he works with simplified forms, colour, rhythm, and composition. Rather than telling a specific story, his paintings invite viewers to find their own connections and meanings.

Born in 1992 in Leuven, Belgium, Maarten De Naeyer creates abstract paintings rooted in a graphic visual language. Influenced by his background as a graphic designer, he works with simplified forms, colour, rhythm, and composition to construct images that feel both structured and intuitive.
His paintings develop through a process of reduction and experimentation. Shapes are moved, combined, and layered until a composition emerges in which balance, tension, and visual harmony play a central role. Rather than starting from a fixed narrative, each work evolves through making, allowing unexpected relationships and meanings to surface.
Characterised by bold forms, subtle textures, and a restrained use of visual elements, De Naeyer’s work sits at the intersection of graphic design and painting. His compositions do not seek to tell a specific story, but instead invite viewers to slow down, make connections, and find their own interpretations within the image.
